Iron Ranger Profile No. 1
Mike L'Huillier

Marquette Mirror. January 20, 1971

"The Pride of South Marquette". That statement only starts to describe Mike L'Huillier, the
starting Left Wing for the U.S.H.L Champion Marquette Iron Rangers. Mike is the best hockey player
to migrate to the Palestra from the Hurley Field rink since Jim Swenor patrolled the same left
wing position for the Marquette Sentinels over ten years ago. Blazing speed packed with great
desire is packed into Mike's 5'7" frame and is surrounded by 160 pounds of agile muscle. As
one of the fastest men on the Iron Rangers he automatically qualifies as one of the fastest men in
the League.  To go with his speed Mike has developed a tremendous shot over the past several years and
when there is even a little chance to get it off there is trouble for the opposing goalie.
This year Mike is on the Iron Rangers First Line with Jerry Sullivan and Ozzie O'Neill and both
players keep Mike on his toes with their experience and clever play. Still only 21 years-old
Mike has unlimited potential. He could end up in one of the top professional leagues. Mike
joined the Rangers last year after two years in the Navy where he served with distinction as
Boss's Assistant on the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Independence. During his two year stint with
Uncle Sam he pulled 14 months of sea duty, most of it in the European area. He is one of
the native Marquette players on the Iron Rangers and while growing up in the area attended Marquette
High School where he played a lot of football and was on the All-U.P. and All-Conference Teams
in addition to being named Captain of the squad. Presently he is a sophomore at N.M.U. where
he is majoring in Physical Education and his future plans include teaching and coaching if he can pull
himself away from full-time hockey. Some of his most ardent fans are his mother and father, Rose
and Clayton L'Huillier of 346 Adams Street, Marquette. Mike also has three sisters and a brother to
cheer him on. Asked what his greatest thrill in hockey was, Mike replied, "Scoring my first goal
as an Iron Ranger against Green Bay, down in Green Bay". That might have been the first goal Mike
L'Huillier scored as an Iron Ranger but it certainly was only a beginning for this player and
Marquette fans can look forward to a long and productive career from "The Pride of South Marquette"...
Mike L'Huillier.
