The Players

The information presented here originated from Official Programs of The Marquette Iron Rangers.  Additional entries will be added, and  * A complete collection of photos is forthcoming.

Brian McKenzie
'74:  Brian returns for his second year with the Iron Rangers from his home town of Sudbury, Ontario. He played previously for Clarkson College where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. This 5'10" center can be counted on for intelligent moves and is a good playmaker. Brian is 24 years old, 170 pounds and is single.
Bill McLeod
'74:  Promising to be a star on defense, Bill hails from Trail, British Columbia, where he played for the Trail Smokeaters last year. He has already shown excellent ability and good hockey strategies. He is 6' tall, 180 pounds, single and is 27 years old.
Bill Mahan
'74:  Iron Ranger fans will welcome the return of Bill Mahan to the team. Playing with the Sentinels last year, Bill is a product of Marquette's Junior Hockey program. This 6', 185 pound left winger could prove to be one of the better performers this year. He is single, age 25, and employed at the Empire Mine.

Wayne McQuaig
'67:  23 years old, 223 lbs. and 6'3" tall, "Big Wayne" is one of the many fine big league prospects in the USHL A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Wayne possesses the hardest shot in the league and scares many goalies and defensemen with this size and speed. Wayne is single and a Senior at NMU.

'66:
Wayne McQuaig is a husky, 6-3 and 215 pound skater from Sudbury, Ont., Canada.  In his third
year with the Rangers, the 22 year-old NMU student does plenty of patrolling along the Rangers' blue line.

'72:  Defense, 24 years old, 6-3, 218 lbs. from Sudbury, Ont., fifth year on team, very hard shot and tremendous stamina.  Graduate of NMU courtesy of Iron Rangers. Plans on doing graduate work. Married and is Number 3.

'69:  "Big Wayne" as he is known has the hardest shot in the league and the most strength. One of the original Iron Rangers, Wayne plays about forty minutes per game killing penalties and plying the point on power plays in addition to taking a regular turn. He is now a graduate of NMU with a degree in Industrial Arts and is the Manager of the Stenglein Printing Co.
He is married.

Joe Papin
'67:  A Marquette boy playing as spare goalie, Joe shows signs of being able to hold his own but needs experience. Very tough with a lot of desire, Joe is one of the best goalies developed in Marquette Junior Hockey.

Ozzie O'Neill
'67:
As one of the many Marquette boys on the team, Ozzie is one of the best all-around hockey players ever developed in town.  His size is the only thing holding him back from an outstanding career.   He makes excellent passes, backchecks consistently and if given the chance will score.  Ozzie is 20 years old and single.

'66:
Austin (Ozzie) O'Neill is a Freshman at NMU.  He is a product of the Marquette Junior League.  The 19 year old local boy is single and lives at 1709 Schaffer in Marquette.

'72:  21 years old, 5-9, brother of Bucky O'Neill, good playmaker and checker, employed by Carroll Motor Supply, tireless skater and good scorer. One of the best players ever in Marquette History. Lots of hockey left, recently married and wears Number 21.

'69:  Ozzie has always been the fans' favorite since breaking in with the Iron Rangers at the end of the season three years ago. A very tricky skater and stick handler, the only thing
keeping him out of the big leagues is his size. He has played all of his hockey in Marquette and is the idol of many junior players. He is married and employed by Carroll Motor Supply.

Jerome "Bucky" O'Neill
'66:
Jerome "Bucky" O'Neill is a former member of the Marquette Sentinels and is known more
for play making than for scoring.  A native of Marquette, the 31 year-old center is married and has three children.  He is in his third year with the Rangers.
Bill Ostwald
’72:  Bill is a very steady centerman and plays a real solid game.  He has great experience and will be a steady influence for the whole team.  Coach Sullivan is really counting on Bill being the Iron Rangers top Center.  He has good scoring ability and will be used heavily as a power play center.  Both Bill and Barry Cook will back up Coach Sullivan as bench coaches during the game.

'69: Bill is a former Iron Ranger attempting a comeback this season after a two-season layoff. If he can get in shape and regain his old form he will be a valuable asset to the club. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, he now makes his home in Marquette, is a graduate of NMU, and is employed by the City of Marquette.
Doug Paul
’72:  25 years old, married, 5-10, 170 lbs., from Caperoel, Ont. Formerly played for Waterloo, Engineer by profession and is employed by Engineered Concrete. Plays center and is outstanding stickhandler. New to Iron Rangers but finding his stride. Wears Number 14.

'69:  Doug is another transfer from the Waterloo Blackhawks and this will be his second year with the Iron Rangers.  He is a good stick handler and passer but due to the wealth of centers and wings he has been shifted to defense.  He was injured at the end of last season but appears to have recovered fully and will help the Rangers.  He is employed by Volkswagon, Inc. and is married and the father of one child.

Steve Lampman
’72:  22 years old, 5-8, 160 lbs., from Rochester, Minn. 2nd year on
team, fast skater and penalty killer, single and employed by the Marquette Mirror. Improves every game and has great desire. Number 22.

Matt Oreskovich
'67:  Matt hails from Chemisford, Ont. Canada. Matt is one of the rangers' better forward  men.  Graduate of NMU worked as Bar and Food Manager at Marquette Golf Club. He is presently teaching skating at NMU.

'66:  Matt Oreskovish hails from Chisford, Ont., Canada.  Matt is one of the
Rangers better forwardmen.  A student at NMU, Matt is 21 years old and single. He played two years with the Sudbury Cubs before joining the Marquette skaters.

'72:  24 years old, 5-11, 176 lbs, a native of Chemlaford, Ont., fast skater, players forward, tough in corners, math teacher, recently married. Suffered broken leg in playoffs two years ago. Fifth year on team and wears Number 18.

'69:  Matt is one of the original Iron Rangers and still one of the fastest. A terrific competitor and hard hitter. Matt is at his best neutralizing the opponents "bad boys". He suffered a badly broken leg a few years ago in the playoffs but has completely recovered. He is married and employed by NMU as a Teaching Fellow.

Mike Powers
'74:  Mike played with the Rangers for the first time last year and was a pleasant surprise in his position at defense. He played nearly half the year with a broken jaw and never let down on his ability. An excellent skater with a good shot, Mike is 21 years old, 5'10" tall, single and weighs in at 170 pounds.

Pete Sereduke
'67:  From Ft. William, Ontario, and former neighbor of Roger Venasky, Pete will see plenty of action on the blue line for the Iron Rangers. Another fast skater and good stickhandler, he could develop into one of the best. He is 21 years old and single. He is a Freshman at NMU.
