In
Recognition of the
MARQUETTE IRON RANGERS
WHEREAS,
on June 17, 1964, the Marquette Iron Rangers became an official
franchise of the United States Hockey League (USHL), and have
won three USHL championships between 1964 and 1976; and
WHEREAS,
fans of this outstanding franchise have witnessed throughout
the years superb displays of athletic ability and good sportsmanship,
as some of the most talented semi-professional hockey players
in the United States have taken to the ice in an Iron Ranger
uniform; and
WHEREAS, through teamwork and hard work, the following
Marquette Iron Rangers players and coaches have successfully
pursued and achieved great success throughout the past 35 years:

WHEREAS, I am pleased
to congratulate each of these talented athletes for their remarkable
achievements, and I commend coaches, past and present, for their
exceptional leadership;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, John Engler, Governor, of the State
of Michigan, do hereby issue this Special Tribute in recognition
of the MARQUETTE IRON RANGERS.
Given under my hand on this thirtieth day of
July in the year of our Lord two thousand and one of the Commonwealth
one hundred and sixty-four.

PROCLAMATION - Marquette Iron Rangers
Day.
Mayor Bradley made the following proclamation:
WHEREAS, the Marquette Iron Rangers were
a semi-pro hockey team in
Marquette from 1964 to 1976 and were held in high esteem by
the
citizens of Marquette for their dedication to the sport
of hockey, and
WHEREAS, the Marquette Iron Rangers
played the majority of their games in the
beloved Palestra Ice Arena, and brought several USHL
Championship trophies to Marquette, and
WHEREAS, the Marquette Iron Rangers enabled
dozens of players to
live, work, and go to school in Marquette, and served
as honorable role models to many children during the
years of their existence, and
WHEREAS, the Marquette Iron Rangers included
USHL Scoring
Champion Jerry Sullivan and League MVP Brian Lunney, and at
one time were considered one of the top 30 hockey teams in the
country which would put them in the NHL by today's standards,
and
WHEREAS the Marquette Iron Rangers were
made up of many local
players and were considered Marquette's Most Beloved Hockey
Team.
NOW THEREFORE I,
Stu Bradley, Mayor of the City of Marquette, do hereby
proclaim Saturday, August 4, 2001 as MARQUETTE IRON
RANGER'S DAY in the City of Marquette.
